Manufacturing of high-precision surface micro-structures on stainless steel by ultrasonic impact peening

Ultrasonic impact peening (UIP) is not only a mature technique of surface treatment, but also promising method texturing for promoting performance and functionalities components devices. In the present work, we demonstrate feasibility applying UIP in manufacturing high precision micro-structures on 316L stainless steel using YG6 cemented carbide tool. Specifically, analytical investigation material deformation map under carried out, which validated by corresponding finite element simulations based combined nonlinear isotropic/kinematic hardening model, as well experiments performed home-made apparatus. Finally, aligned grooves with depth 2 μm periodicity 240 are fabricated UIP, subsequently subjected to linear reciprocating ball-disk sliding tests. Corresponding experimental results show that possess comparable accuracy groove morphology frictional properties ultrasonic elliptical vibration cutting single crystal diamond The work sheds lights fabrication ferrous metals technique.
